Mavericks Acquire Sergio De Larrea at No. 25 in Trade-Up Move]
The Dallas Mavericks traded up in the second round to secure the draft rights to Sergio De Larrea, selecting the 25th overall pick on Tuesday. The Spanish guard helped lead Valencia to an ACB championship this season and brings strong ballhandling ability and basketball IQ to the franchise.
“We are still working through all that with Sergio,” said MavericksGM Mike Schmitz. “But whether it’s next year or the following, just to have that level of size and I.Q. in our program is huge for us.”
De Larrea, who grew up as a Mavericks fan at various points, acknowledged the team’s need for guard depth behind Kyrie Irving. While the organization would prefer to have him join the roster in Dallas soon, his immediate future remains undetermined.
