Max Domi, a center for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is out indefinitely after encountering complications from surgery performed during the off-season.
The 31-year-old underwent surgery to correct an issue he endured during the season, the team announced on Monday.
The organization did not disclose the specific nature of the procedure or the complications, but indicated that Domi will collaborate with the Leafs’ medical staff and be reassessed when training camp begins.
Domi appeared in 80 games this season, contributing 12 goals and 24 assists for a total of 36 points. He was a healthy scratch on two occasions and missed several preseason contests because of a lower-body injury.
He averaged 14 minutes and 53 seconds of ice time per game, frequently seeing duty on both wing and center, often alongside Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Domi has two years left on a four-year contract carrying a $3.75 million cap hit and includes a 13-team no-trade clause.
The club is projected to have roughly $22.2 million in cap space for the upcoming off-season. Among NHL-level pending unrestricted free agents, only Calle Jarnkrok and Troy Stecher remain, while restricted free agents Mattias Maccelli and Nick Robertson head the Leafs’ pool of players eligible for arbitration.
