Conor McGregor makes his long-awaited return to the Octagon after a five-year absence, squaring off against Max Holloway in a five-round welterweight main event Saturday at UFC 329. The bout caps International Fight Week at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor (22-6) has not competed since suffering a broken tibia against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The former two-division champion was originally slated to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024 following their rivalry on The Ultimate Fighter 31, but a toe injury forced a postponement that was never rescheduled. Now 37, McGregor returns to 170 pounds for the first time in six years, seeking to re-establish himself as a title contender while attempting a second victory over Holloway—his first coming via unanimous decision in August 2013 at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston, just the Irishman’s second UFC appearance.
Holloway (27-9) makes his official welterweight debut after a historic run at featherweight and lightweight spanning more than a decade. The 34-year-old Hawaiian lost his “BMF” title to former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March and views this rematch as a path back into the 170-pound title picture.
Event Schedule
The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET (1 a.m. GMT Sunday), with McGregor and Holloway expected to walk to the Octagon around 12:30 a.m. ET (3:30 a.m. GMT). Preliminary action starts at 7 p.m. ET (11 p.m. GMT).
How to Watch
In the United States, the event streams on Paramount+. In the United Kingdom, TNT Sports carries the broadcast. A complete list of international broadcasters is available via the UFC’s official channels.
Pre-Fight Tensions Escalate
At Thursday’s press conference, McGregor declared his pursuit of a “triple crown” across three weight classes. “The OG champ-champ, coming for the triple crown. Sounds like a hell of a story to me,” he told reporters.
Holloway, dismissive of McGregor’s claim that he won’t “lay a glove” on him, responded: “We’re gonna find out Saturday night.” McGregor took issue with Holloway’s suggestion of a potential December rematch, calling the comments disrespectful and vowing to make a return fight unnecessary. “I’m drowning his a**,” Holloway fired back, further igniting the rivalry.
First Encounter: 2013 Flashback
The pair first met on August 17, 2013, at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston. McGregor won a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) on the preliminary card, before either fighter reached global stardom. McGregor’s striking troubled Holloway early, highlighted by a second-round uppercut that wobbled the Hawaiian. The latter half shifted to the ground, where McGregor maintained enough control to secure the verdict. The Irishman tore his ACL during the bout, requiring surgery and an 11-month layoff.

Co-Main Event: Contender Clash at Lightweight
Fifth-ranked Benoît Saint Denis (17-3) faces ninth-ranked Paddy Pimblett (23-4) in a pivotal lightweight matchup with title-shot ramifications. Saint Denis aims to neutralize Pimblett’s momentum with elite grappling, while Pimblett seeks the highest-ranked win of his UFC tenure. Pimblett fell short in an interim title bid against Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 in January; Gaethje later captured the undisputed belt by defeating Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 in June.
