McGregor maintains he entered the bout fully fit, despite the brevity of his comeback.
McGregor, with a record of 22‑7, made his first appearance in five years against Max Holloway (28‑9) at UFC 329 in Las Vegas on Saturday. His comeback was abruptly halted when he injured his right knee with the opening kick, barely standing before the referee called an end to the contest within a minute.
McGregor Insists He Was Uninjured Prior to UFC 329 Knee Incident
Speculation has arisen regarding McGregor’s condition before the bout. Video showed him stumbling while removing his shoes before entering the Octagon, yet the former two‑division champion insists he entered the fight without injury.
“I was incredibly sharp and fully prepared for this fight, and I am astonished by what transpired,” McGregor posted on X. “The notion that I was unfit upon entering the arena is false. I remained calm, confident, and in disbelief at the events. The adversary appears before me, yet I will not engage. I will attend church tomorrow, overcome this setback, and will not be deterred; I will return.”
McGregor has previously discussed his growing reliance on faith as he prepared for UFC 329, and he now leans on that spiritual foundation amid this challenge.
