Meghan’s recent return to Australia comes after a four-day visit with Prince Harry in April.

Her debut on MasterChef was announced during the second day of the tour, a Wednesday when she notably avoided public appearances. That evening, it was revealed she had been filming the program.

It is understood she was not paid for her appearance. Australia’s Network 10, which airs the series via Paramount ANZ, did not respond to a BBC inquiry about potential compensation for co-hosting the Junior MasterChef season.

“I love cooking with my own kids, so seeing what these young stars create in the kitchen is going to be a lot of fun,” she said in a statement.

In August, the Sussexes announced their return to the UK from California. Having stepped back from royal duties in early 2020 and relocating to California in March of that year, they have since pursued media ventures, including a high-profile Oprah interview, Netflix and Spotify deals.

Meghan’s Netflix lifestyle and cookery show, With Love, Meghan, ran for two series and a Christmas special but failed to resonate with viewers. She also launched her lifestyle brand As Ever, which includes a food range, though the partnership with the streaming platform ended in March.

Last year, Meghan registered her trademark in over a dozen product categories in Australia, including cookware and table linen.
