Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza primarily operated from the shotgun formation during his college career. Transitioning to a traditional under‑center stance presents a significant adjustment in the NFL.

Mendozasaid in a Raiders.com interview noted that head coach Klint Kubiak’s offense presents a fresh challenge during offseason work, which he welcomes.

“I’ve been learning many new variables of playing under center and have taken numerous additional repetitions, which has made me feel much more comfortable in that position,” Mendoza said. “The offense is excellent, and I have full confidence in Coach Kubiak’s system.”

Mendoza is not alone in this transition; many college offenses keep quarterbacks in the shotgun for every play, whereas NFL teams still expect their quarterbacks to operate from under center on occasion. He is confident that he will be fully prepared to take snaps under center by the start of the season.
