Meta is developing a pair of smart glasses without a camera and plans to begin shipments this fall, according to The Information. The outlet reports that the Lunar model could be unveiled at its upcoming Connect developer conference on September 23–24, arriving later that month. Luna is set to be offered in two versions—Clubmaster and Burbank.
Unlike previous iterations, the new glasses omit a camera entirely yet integrate six built-in microphones paired with ear-focused speakers, allowing real-time voice interaction with Meta’s conversational AI. Their slender temples give them a familiar eyewear silhouette. The designers acknowledge persistent reputational challenges stemming from critics labeling earlier designs “pervert glasses,” though a blinking indicator now signals active recording and recent firmware updates safeguard against unauthorized disabling.
Metaverse accessories continue to attract strong demand, yet ongoing scrutiny over covert capture risks hampers uptake. By eliminating the camera component, Meta hopes to reassure wary consumers and convert skeptics into buyers of its next-generation product.
