Meta Platforms will train 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises across Pakistan in artificial intelligence and digital business tools through the end of the year, the Ministry of Commerce announced Thursday. The commitment emerged from a meeting in Islamabad between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and a Meta delegation, where the company outlined its Small Business Growth Academy program.
Launched globally in June, the initiative is designed to help small businesses scale by leveraging Meta’s digital platforms, AI-powered tools, and online marketing strategies. In Pakistan, the program will run from August through November and be executed locally by AtomCamp, an AI training and implementation firm, at no cost to participants.
The ministry said the curriculum targets improved digital literacy, expanded market access, and dedicated support for women entrepreneurs and businesses in smaller cities through a mix of physical and virtual sessions. The push aligns with Islamabad’s broader strategy to harness its youthful demographic and rising smartphone penetration to drive digital economic growth.
Earlier this week, the government introduced an AI-based tracking system in the Prime Minister’s Office to monitor the implementation of key directives, signaling a wider embrace of artificial intelligence across public administration. Minister Khan emphasized Pakistan’s focus on digital trade, e-commerce, and technology-driven export expansion, noting that the country’s growing digital economy presents significant partnership opportunities for global tech firms.
The ministry pledged to facilitate connections between Meta and business stakeholders nationwide, including the Directorate General of Trade Organizations. Meta’s delegation welcomed the collaboration and expressed interest in broadening the program’s reach.
The partnership extends beyond skills training. This week, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Meta signed a letter of intent to promote online safety and digital literacy nationwide. The collaboration will cover capacity building, policy dialogue, awareness campaigns, and the exchange of global best practices focused on youth online safety and digital well-being.
