Mexican football supporters celebrated into the evening on Thursday following the national team’s victory over South Africa in the opening match of their 2026 World Cup campaign.
Fans gathered at fan zones throughout Mexico City, including the renowned Plaza Garibaldi, where crowds cheered, waved flags, and performed the Mexican wave as the hosts secured their first tournament victory.
Supporters both inside and outside the Mexico City Stadium celebrated as Mexico scored two goals to secure all three points in the Group A opener.
