Stephen King adaptations dominated the 2025 landscape with three major releases. The year opened with the sci-fi thriller The Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston, followed by Francis Lawrence’s horror adaptation The Long Walk, which earned over $75 million against a $25 million budget. The final entry, The Running Man starring Glen Powell, struggled commercially, grossing just $69 million against a $110 million budget.

While 2026 has already seen the binge release of Carrie on Prime Video, another King adaptation is generating significant anticipation. MGM+ has released the first official trailer for The Institute Season 2, confirming the series returns on November 8. New episodes will debut weekly following the premiere.

Based on King’s bestselling novel, the series is written and showrun by Benjamin Cavell. The ensemble cast includes Joe Freeman as Luke Ellis, Ben Barnes as Tim Jamieson, Mary-Louise Parker as Ms. Sigsby, Alfie Allen as Nolan, Simone Miller as Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nicky, Arlen So as George, Robert Joy as Dr. Hendricks, and Hannah Galway as Wendy.

“Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, MGM+’s hit thriller horror series The Institute is back for a highly anticipated second season. In the wake of their climactic escape from Dennison, Luke and his friends search for a way to end the Institute for good. Meanwhile, The Director enlists a new ally, tech billionaire Nolan Reeves, to help him rebuild, and Sigsby’s life as a fugitive pushes her to seek a way back in.”

Season 1 of The Institute is currently streaming on MGM+.
