June 2025 marks the conclusion of Mick Foley’s contractual relationship with WWE following the expiration of his Legends deal.
Foley cited his “close relationship” with President Donald Trump as a key factor in his decision not to renew his WWE Legends contract in December 2025. He debuted with AEW in May, which was possible due to his lack of an active talent contract with WWE—only the Legends agreement covering merchandise rights remained.
The Legends license has now officially lapsed. In a recent statement, Foley thanked WWE and his fans: “Hey everyone, this is Mick Foley… The message for WWE, and specifically their merchandise and marketing teams, is simply: Thank you. I mean that sincerely.”
Reflecting on his career, Foley recalled purchasing his first WWE action figure in 1996, believing it would be the only one produced. He expressed appreciation for fans who supported him through merchandise purchases and show attendance, noting he recently received his largest quarterly WWE royalty payment in over a decade.
“For fans, I have no issue signing WWE memorabilia. I’m proud of my time there and look forward to future opportunities,” Foley stated. “This marks a new chapter in my career and life, and I’m excited to contribute to AEW’s growth.”
Foley plans to launch AEW merchandise alongside other brands he’s recently partnered with, with details to follow soon.
Mick Foley’s AEW Broadcasting Role and Potential In-Ring Return —
Foley’s AEW debut included co-hosting the Double or Nothing pre-show with Renee Paquette. He will continue in a broadcasting capacity but was unavailable for Forbidden Door due to prior commitments.
While open to in-ring matches for AEW, Foley acknowledges fitness improvements are needed. Though he suggested a dream match against Darby Allin, Allin has expressed interest only in teaming with Foley. The 61-year-old hasn’t competed since the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble.
“Thanks to WWE, my supporters, and everyone who’ve engaged with my work,” Foley concluded. “Wishing you all continued success.
