Wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer has recently become the center of a social media controversy following serious allegations regarding his professional conduct.
The situation began when a professional wrestling student and referee known as Perch shared a three-part thread on social media reflecting on a discouraging encounter with Dreamer during his time in TNA. Perch claimed that Dreamer approached him backstage and explicitly stated that he would do everything in his power to prevent the young student from securing employment within the industry.
“Tommy Dreamer pulled me aside backstage at a TNA show, telling me he would do everything he could to make sure I don’t earn a job in the wrestling business. All I did was try to learn and grow from experiences, though his words were very discouraging for a young student to hear,” Perch wrote.
He further advised others in the industry to remain passionate and avoid being coerced by others’ rigid visions. “Take critique like a professional and thank them for their time. However don’t allow someone to ‘coercive’ you. Share your burning desire to succeed in the pro wrestling business with others who appreciate you! This is a community, not a tyranny,” he added.
The claims prompted a sharp response from WWE legend Mickie James, a close friend of Dreamer. James defended the veteran, suggesting that Perch was omitting crucial details to garner attention. She argued that Dreamer is a widely respected figure who has helped countless people in the industry, including herself.
“If you are going into come on here & attempt to bury someone… then at least be completely honest. I understand you want to speak ‘your truth’ & possibly gain a bit of recognition by jumping on the bandwagon, however if this is your path of 15 seconds of [X] buzz … at least have the common decency to speak ‘the whole truth’,” James stated. She concluded by noting that while Dreamer’s career security is guaranteed, she could not say the same for the accuser.
When it was pointed out that Perch’s original post was a detailed thread rather than a single comment, James responded with a brief, “lol. True.”
Carlie Bravo Recalls Similar Experience
While James offered her defense, AEW/ROH wrestler Carlie Bravo shared his own troubling interaction with the ECW legend. Responding to Perch’s post, Bravo recalled a time when Dreamer praised his talent but admitted he couldn’t hire him because he was unsure if he could market a “cocky black guy” to the audience.
“Needless to say, I’m on top of the game and never changed one bit. Run it up. F**k what anybody else says,” Bravo wrote.
Joey Janela also weighed in, expressing surprise at the allegations. “As someone that does like Tommy, idk why he would say something like that to one of nicest and most humble dudes in professional wrestling,” Janela noted, offering his support to Perch and predicting a successful future for the referee.
Dreamer spent a decade with TNA Wrestling serving as a producer, talent scout, and member of the creative team. He officially parted ways with the promotion on June 17, 2026. As of now, Dreamer has not issued an official comment regarding these allegations.
