Mike Bailey discusses how he acquired the ‘Speedball’ nickname.
In a recent YouTube vlog, Bailey elaborated on the story behind his ‘Speedball’ moniker, crediting a Montreal-based writer for its creation.
“You bounce around the ring almost literally. In one of my early matches after I began wrestling in Montreal, writer Michael Ryan — who covered the local wrestling scene extensively — observed my style and commented on it.”
“He has since passed away, and he described my early‑ring movement as resembling a speedball. That nickname stuck, and I intend to keep it forever,” Bailey said.
Mike Bailey, whose legal name is Émile Charles Baillargeon-Laberge, launched his professional wrestling career in 2006 under the ring name Mike Sydal on the Montreal indie circuit. He later adopted the name Mike Bailey and made ‘Speedball’ his lasting nickname.
