Mike Bailey recently opened up about his emotional return to Montreal during AEW Redemption.

Earlier this year, Bailey competed in and won the AEW International Title number‑one contender ladder match at AEW Redemption. In a recent interview with Wrestling Classic, he revisited that victory and what it meant to triumph in his hometown.

“It was absolutely amazing. Not just the fact that I was back home in the arena that I first went to see pro wrestling, but it’s so much closer than that. And I hope that people realize how tight and close the Quebec wrestling community is.”

“Literally, I remember standing on top of that ladder and seeing in the audience my family, my mother and my cousins and my uncles and aunts had come to see me do pro wrestling for the first time in my life,” he shared.

Bailey noted that, despite two decades in the ring, this was the first time his mother attended one of his matches. Seeing his family and close friends in the crowd, unaware they were coming, made the moment especially meaningful.

“Seeing faces of people from the Quebec wrestling community all over the crowd that I knew personally, not just people that I have met in passing, but people that I know literally in every direction, seeing people that I’m close with and then grabbing that contract that guaranteed me a title shot at Grand Slam was definitely a highlight of my career,” he finished.

Bailey is slated to compete in the Clockwork Carnage match at AEW WrestleDream 2026, vying for the World Championship.
