Mike Martin announced his resignation as Brown University’s head coach on Monday to accept an assistant position on the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball staff.

In a social‑media statement, Brown expressed gratitude for Martin’s “distinguished 14‑year coaching career,” and the university confirmed his move to Michigan. The national champion Wolverines had an opening following the promotion of Mike Boynton Jr. to head coach after the Dallas Mavericks hired Dusty May.

Martin stated, “I am deeply grateful to Coach Boynton for the opportunity to join the Michigan basketball family. Michigan is a premier program with a championship culture, exceptional people, and a commitment to excellence. I look forward to working with our student‑athletes and building on the program’s recent successes.”

Boynton added, “Mike is someone I have long admired. He is an outstanding coach, an exceptional teacher, and one of the best recruiters in the game. Beyond his professional achievements, he is a great person who invests deeply in his players. At Brown, he consistently built competitive teams through development and a winning culture, values that align perfectly with what we are creating in Ann Arbor. We are excited to welcome Mike, his wife Kristin, and their daughters to the Michigan family.”

Martin, 44, coached Brown from 2012 through 2026 after his playing years (2000‑04). He amassed a 171‑202 record as a head coach, highlighted by a 20‑12 season in 2018‑19. Brown will now undertake a nationwide search for his successor, as reported by ESPN.
