Miki Peled, the visionary producer and founder of the Festigal series, passed away at the age of 87, announced Monday morning. Widely regarded as a cornerstone of Israel’s entertainment landscape, he leaves behind a legacy that shaped the formative years of generations nationwide.
Born in Romania in 1939, Peled immigrated to Israel with his family in 1948. In 1981, he launched the inaugural Festigal production in Haifa, transforming it over the decades into a premier cultural institution and an iconic symbol of Hanukkah celebrations across the country.
Beyond Festigal, Peled orchestrated numerous major performances and cultural events throughout his prolific career, collaborating with many of Israel’s foremost artists and creators. His contributions earned him a lifetime achievement award from ACUM, Israel’s music and copyright organization.
Colleagues, partners, and friends remembered him as a mentor and visionary with a generous spirit, known for identifying emerging talent and providing artists with the platform and opportunity to launch their careers.
Yaron Peled, his son and creative partner, reflected: “Miki was more than a producer; he was a dreamer who could recognize talent, give people a chance, and above all, make them believe in themselves.”
Peled is survived by his wife Tami, their children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as the countless artists and performers who viewed him as a guiding light.
His funeral will take place Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Kiryat Shaul Cemetery in Tel Aviv, where family, mourners, and leading figures from Israel’s cultural world will gather to pay their final respects.
