DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unidentified militants detonated explosive devices late Sunday night in the Chesan Kech area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, destroying a government middle school and a basic health unit (BHU), according to local sources.
Local authorities confirmed that the attack specifically targeted the Government Middle School for Boys and the BHU, resulting in extensive damage to both facilities under the jurisdiction of Saddar police station.
Initial assessments by community figures indicate that no injuries or fatalities occurred during the incident, as both buildings were unoccupied at the time of the blast.
Law enforcement officials arrived promptly at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Teams have begun gathering evidence at the affected locations while working to trace the perpetrators involved in the attack.
The region has experienced heightened militant activity this year, with a notable increase in assaults against civilian infrastructure. Educational institutions and public utilities, including bridges, have become frequent targets.
In March, unknown assailants planted explosives at a government school in Bannu district, causing significant destruction. Similar incidents were reported in February when an explosion damaged a government school in Birmal tehsil, South Waziristan.
Earlier in the year, separate bridge demolition attacks were carried out in North Waziristan’s Shewa and Mir Ali tehsils. The destruction of the Shewa bridge severely disrupted overland connectivity between the region and nearby cities like Miranshah and Bannu.
