Military police have launched an investigation into the death of an Israeli soldier whose body was discovered in central Israel last week, according to local media reports.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Monday that the soldier was found on Friday. While the identity of the deceased has not been released, the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division is currently conducting a probe, the results of which will be handed over to the military prosecutor once finalized. The soldier’s family has been informed of the incident.
This death occurs amid heightened national concern regarding suicide rates among Israeli service members, a trend that has gained significant media attention.
In May, the newspaper Haaretz reported on a soldier who died by suicide in the United States, an incident reportedly linked to the trauma of losing a close friend during the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Furthermore, Haaretz noted that 22 Israeli soldiers died by suicide while on active duty in 2025, marking the highest annual figure recorded by the military in 15 years.
Analysts and media outlets have connected this surge to the psychological toll of prolonged military service during the war in Gaza, which began in October 2023.
The Israeli military has not officially commented on whether this specific case is being treated as a suspected suicide, and an official cause of death has not yet been released.
Mental health experts continue to warn of the long-term psychological impact of repeated combat deployments and the sustained operational pressure placed on forces engaged in the Gaza conflict.
