Three years after leaving the Milwaukee Brewers, David Stearns sees his legacy embedded in the franchise’s return to the World Series.
Stearns served as the Brewers’ top baseball operations executive—first as general manager, then as president of baseball operations—from September 2015 to October 2022. He spent the next season as an advisor to the ownership group before moving to New York to become the Mets’ president of baseball operations.
During his tenure, Stearns shaped the roster through drafts, international signings, and trades, laying the groundwork for a team that swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS and earned a spot in the Brewers’ first World Series appearance in 44 years.
After Stearns’ departure, former assistant GM Matt Arnold assumed the helm for the 2023 season, executing the moves that propelled the consistently competitive Brewers over the hump and into October’s postseason run.
