MJF Shares Rare Childhood Footage, Highlights Early Wrestling Success

MJF grants fans an uncommon look back at his youth as a wrestler.

On X, the AEW World Champion responded to a fan account that reposted an old clip of him competing in an amateur wrestling tournament during his teenage years.

He revealed that he “won the tournament that day” and referred to himself as the “sprawl god,” sharing a video of himself performing a takedown on his opponent.

Among the comments, one user noted that MJF competed without headgear, while another commended him for not striking the other child with the Dynamite Diamond Ring.

MJF Injured During AEW Dynamite Match

MJF defended the AEW World Championship in the opening match of the June 3 episode of Dynamite. Friedman faced former multi‑time ROH World Champion RUSH in a No Count Out match.

The bout became so intense that AEW medical staff entered the ring and ruled that neither competitor was medically fit to continue. In a surprising move, RUSH refused to accept the decision and headbutted the ringside physician, delaying a stoppage.

After enduring punishment and exploiting RUSH’s deteriorating condition, MJF ultimately retained the AEW World Championship through referee stoppage. However, the win came at a cost, as Friedman reportedly suffered a knee injury during the match against El Toro Blanco.

The injury forced him to withdraw from a scheduled independent wrestling appearance against Bobby Orlando at Beyond Wrestling’s June 5 event in Cranston, Rhode Island.

At the time of writing, Friedman is not listed in the cast for this week’s Summer Blockbuster episode of AEW Dynamite.
