Three individuals were injured on Monday following an explosion at a residential building in Monaco, which authorities are treating as a deliberate attack.
The Minister of State, Christophe Mirmand, stated that the blast was “very likely an attack,” according to AFP.
The explosion occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT) in a residential building situated on a street bordering France.
Public prosecutor Stéphane Thibault indicated that a suspect placed a bag or package in the building’s lobby before departing.
At present, there is no apparent motive or reason indicating why the building was targeted, he added.
A couple in their fifties or sixties sustained life‑threatening injuries, while their 13‑year‑old relative sustained less severe wounds. Minister Mirmand provided no further details on their nationality.
The device appears to have contained bolts and buckshot, Mirmand noted, as police continue their investigation.
“In my view, this marks the first such incident in the principality’s history,” he commented.
