Drone attacks killed three people and injured five in the Moscow region on Monday, according to regional authorities, marking an escalation in Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory.
Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported on Telegram that a drone crashed in the settlement of Pionersky in the Istra district, killing three people and wounding three others. Two additional injuries were recorded elsewhere in the region. Air defenses intercepted 81 drones over the area, Vorobyov stated.
The incident comes as Ukraine intensifies its campaign against Russian infrastructure, particularly energy facilities, which Kyiv describes as legitimate retaliation for Moscow’s sustained bombardments over more than four years.
Further south, a separate drone strike sparked a fire at an industrial zone in Vyazniki, located in the Shpakovsky district of the Stavropol region. Governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed that emergency crews were deployed to the scene and no casualties were reported. He warned that the drone threat remains active across the entire region.
The latest attacks coincide with a meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Paris to discuss increasing pressure on Russia to end the conflict. U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to negotiate a ceasefire have stalled in recent months amid shifting geopolitical priorities.
