SAVE PAKISTAN: Healthcare workers at Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) in south Punjab are bracing for potential outbreaks after a senior nurse tested positive for the monkeypox virus (Mpox).
Representing BVH Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Abdul Rehman Chandio, DMS Dr Rizwan Ahmad disclosed that a key medical staff nurse had recently returned a positive result from a lab analysis in Lahore.
The infected nurse is currently isolating at home under medical oversight. Her health status is documented as stable and improving, according to hospital officials.
An internal review suggests the nurse may have acquired the virus during patient care in the emergency department. Initial symptoms emerged before laboratory confirmation, triggering immediate action to contain potential exposure.
Dr Rizwan emphasized that rigorous isolation protocols are now in place to safeguard other staff and patients from the highly transmissible pathogen.
