At least six individuals were killed during a wedding celebration in Gaza City after an Israeli strike targeted the wedding tent, according to medical sources in the region.
Reporting from the enclave on Saturday, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud noted that several projectiles impacted the wedding tents, sending shrapnel into the surrounding vicinity.
“Two missiles detonated inside the tent, causing significant destruction and sending high-speed shrapnel into a nearby school used as a displacement site, which was crowded with displaced families,” Mahmoud reported.
A representative from al-Shifa Hospital confirmed to Al Jazeera that the attack resulted in at least 15 injuries.
Mahmoud indicated that the casualties likely include women and children, and warned that the death toll is expected to increase.
“Relatives at the scene described the tent as being fully packed,” Mahmoud said.
“In a matter of minutes, the celebratory atmosphere was replaced by tragedy and bloodshed.”
“This event underscores the constant anxiety and fear experienced by Palestinians due to these ongoing attacks,” he added.
