Mumbai Indians have officially ruled out trading Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the IPL 2027 season, confirming the India batter remains a central figure in their plans despite ongoing speculation.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, MI sources have firmly dismissed the prospect of releasing or trading the star batter, stating: “SKY is not up for trade, and there have been no discussions, nor will there be.”
Reports indicate that Lucknow Super Giants explored a potential move for Suryakumar Yadav, viewing him as a possible leadership option following their decision to part ways with Rishabh Pant.
Suryakumar Yadav’s future attracted attention after a comparatively below-par IPL 2026 campaign, in which he scored 270 runs across 13 matches—a notable decline from his 2025 season, where he amassed 717 runs in 16 matches.
Mumbai Indians have stated they will not judge Yadav on a single challenging season. Retained for ₹16.35 crore ahead of IPL 2026, he has been a pivotal batter for the franchise since 2018, playing a key role in their 2019 and 2020 title wins and establishing himself as one of the world’s leading T20 batters.
His extensive record with Mumbai—over 4,500 IPL runs—and reputation as a proven match-winner capable of altering an innings’ course reinforce the franchise’s stance. Additionally, his experience as India’s T20I captain adds significant value, particularly amid ongoing attention on MI’s leadership structure.
Reports of discussions involving Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya and Punjab Kings have circulated, but Mumbai Indians’ position on Yadav suggests they are unwilling to part with both senior players in the same window. The Hardik Pandya situation remains distinct, and no completed deal should be assumed.
With the IPL 2027 retention deadline set for November 17 and the mini-auction scheduled for December 16 in Goa, Mumbai still face squad decisions. As things stand, Suryakumar Yadav does not appear to be among the players the franchise is willing to place on the trading table.
