Clive Davis, the legendary music executive, has been hospitalized in New York City following an upper respiratory issue, according to a representative who confirmed the development to Rolling Stone. The 94-year-old industry icon is expected to be released within the next 48 hours.
This marks another health challenge for Davis, who previously postponed his renowned Pre-Grammy Gala in 2021 after being diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a temporary condition causing facial muscle weakness. Despite these recent health concerns, Davis remains deeply involved in the music industry at 94.
Davis built a Music Hall of Fame career spanning over five decades, shaping the careers of legendary artists including Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin, and Alicia Keys. Rising through the ranks of Columbia Records beginning in the early 1960s, he became known as the man with “golden ears” and founded Arista Records.
In 2017, while reflecting on his career for the documentary “The Soundtrack of Our Lives,” Davis emphasized his enduring passion for music, stating, “I’m immersed in it. I think music is the universal language.”
Looking toward the future, Davis expressed his commitment to nurturing emerging talent: “Right now I’m very involved in working to really prove a point: In the current state of music, and with the health restored in the industry, we have to address not only where the next Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen is coming from but also where is the next Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston coming from.” He added, “It can’t take place in such a dominating way that it obscures the great new voices.”
