Gerard Way revealed during My Chemical Romance’s concert in San Antonio that the band plans to record a new album, their first studio release in more than 16 years.
The group spent the past year touring in celebration of the 20th anniversary of “The Black Parade” (2006) and previously released “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” in 2010 before a six‑year hiatus. They reunited in 2019 for a series of shows and issued a single, “The Foundations of Decay,” in 2022, but had not yet begun work on a full-length follow‑up.
Speaking to fans at the Alamodome, Way said, “We should probably make more songs. [‘The Foundations of Decay’] was really awesome when we kept doing it…stuff happens, life happens. But we always wanted to make another record, so we hope to. You guys have kept us alive for so long—you deserve another record.”
The North American leg of the Long Live the Black Parade Tour concluded on Saturday. The band will still perform at Louisville’s Louder Than Life and Sacramento’s Aftershock festivals before a five‑night residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles that ends on Halloween. Afterward, My Chemical Romance will embark on a month‑long Southeast Asian tour concluding in late November, after which they hope to return to the studio.
