My Chemical Romance has released a new animated short film featuring a notable voice cast that includes Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Hideo Kojima, and John C. McGinley. Titled “Prelude to the End,” the project was created in collaboration with visual artist Lauren Tsai and arrives shortly after the band’s 20th-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade.

The short follows Astrid, a student at a New England boarding school overwhelmed by waste. While searching for a cherished sketchbook, she tumbles down a garbage chute into a surreal realm where forgotten ideas take shape. Bridgers voices Astrid’s sister, Eilish portrays her close friend, Kojima plays the Teacher, and McGinley voices the Dean, an imposing administrator. The film’s score includes a live performance of Pascal Dusapin’s Flying River, Violin Concerto by the Utopia Orchestra under Giuseppe Mengoli.

MCR will screen the film during its final two Hollywood Bowl residency dates on October 30 and 31, concluding a five-night Los Angeles run tied to the ongoing The Black Parade 20th-anniversary tour. The band previously performed the album in full at When We Were Young in 2024.
