Myles Garrett set an NFL single‑season record with 23 sacks last year, but he says he isn’t satisfied until he also captures the career sacks record he sees set by Hall‑of‑Fame defensive end Bruce Smith.
Following his trade to the Los Angeles Rams, Garrett noted that while he and Smith share a friendship, he hopes to eclipse the 200‑sack milestone that Smith still holds.
“There’s a big goal out there—200,” Garrett told Rams media. “I want to eclipse that, or at least get close. I have a good relationship with the guy who has that record, and being able to reach that would mean a lot to myself and to him.”
The 30‑year‑old has 125.5 sacks on his record, compared with Smith’s 106 at the same age. Though Smith played until 40, pushing Garrett to catch that total will remain a formidable challenge.
Garrett has stated that while he aspires to be regarded as the greatest pass rusher ever, securing a Super Bowl title is his top priority.
“The GOAT talk will come and go, but I want to win,” he said. “I want to win early and often.”
