The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has introduced an artificial‑intelligence‑based investigation system, announced National Centre of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) Chairman Dr. Yasar Ayaz in a statement on Tuesday.
Described as Pakistan’s first sovereign generative‑AI‑powered investigation platform, the system marks a significant step toward digital transformation and institutional modernisation.
Ayaz said the state‑of‑the‑art platform is designed to assist in probing white‑collar crime through advanced AI capabilities, reflecting the country’s growing ability to develop indigenous solutions that protect data sovereignty and retain institutional ownership.
The AI‑driven system sets a national benchmark for responsible AI adoption within public‑sector bodies. It is expected to enhance the speed, accuracy, and effectiveness of investigations into financial crimes, corruption, and other complex offences.
By helping investigators manage information and generate actionable insights, the platform aims to support evidence‑based decision‑making and strengthen accountability.
This initiative represents a transformative step in NAB’s reform agenda, underscoring its commitment to leveraging modern technologies to improve transparency, efficiency, and public trust.
The project aligns with broader national efforts to promote innovation, digital governance, and the use of emerging technologies for public service delivery.
A meeting supervised by NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi Director General Waqar Ahmed Chauhan convened experts from NCAI, including Ayaz, and members of the AI development team.
During the session, the NCAI team demonstrated the platform’s capabilities across key investigative functions such as complaint verification, inquiry management, investigation support, financial analysis, evidence management, and decision‑making assistance.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed their commitment to the timely completion and deployment of the platform.
Once operational, the system is poised to become a flagship indigenous AI initiative and a pioneering model for sovereign generative AI in Pakistan’s public sector, paving the way for technology‑enabled governance and modern law‑enforcement practices nationwide.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from NAB and NCAI to continue collaborating on AI innovation, positioning Pakistan as a leader in developing sovereign AI solutions for the public sector.
