Yuji Nagata and Satoshi Kojima will face off in a singles championship match for the first time when DDT hosts its Super Japan Pro Wrestling event at Shinjuku FACE on September 28.
Nagata enters the bout as the 1,909th Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion, while Kojima has been named his challenger. DDT initially announced the singles meeting as part of its New Japan Pro-Wrestling crossover program, but Nagata’s subsequent title win elevated the stakes. The promotion has billed it as the first singles title contest between the two longtime NJPW competitors.
One caveat remains: DDT has noted that the match could lose its championship status before bell time due to the Ironman title’s unique rules. Nagata must still hold the title at the time of the scheduled match for it to take place as advertised.
The September 28 card also features CIMA versus Ken Ohka, Mio Shirai and Yuki Minami taking on Marika Kobashi and Azusa Inaba, plus GAJI’s debut in a tag team match. DDT has confirmed that the sold-out Shinjuku FACE event will stream live on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. The event is part of the venue’s countdown series leading into DDT’s Ryogoku plans later this fall.
