Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first, but their innings got off to a shaky start when Tim Tector was dismissed for just five runs in the second over.
Andrew Balbirnie followed soon after, departing for nine. Cade Carmichael showed early promise but became Jack Brassell’s first victim, leaving Ireland’s innings struggling to gain momentum.
Harry Tector and Tucker attempted to stem the tide, though Jordan Neill’s brisk 33 from 25 balls provided some brief relief before he too fell to Brassell.
JJ Smit tore through the Ireland batting lineup, claiming four wickets for only 20 runs, which left the hosts with a very manageable target.
Namibia’s reply began with a setback as Jai Moondra removed Michael van Lingen for 15 in the seventh over. However, opening partner Louren Steenkamp battled to 44 before being run out by Matthew Humphreys, who also claimed two additional wickets.
A composed 30 from Gerhard Erasmus steadied Namibia’s chase, and despite the skipper’s eventual dismissal to Humphries, the hosts crossed the finish line comfortably.
“Namibia’s strong top-order batting and disciplined bowling through the middle overs gave us a clear lesson in how to execute those phases effectively,” Tucker remarked.
“We brought the necessary intensity, but our skills still need sharpening.”
“Credit to Namibia—they played diligent cricket for longer stretches than we did, and that’s why they won the series today.”
