LONDON — Supermodel Naomi Campbell successfully appealed on Thursday, securing the reversal of a five‑year prohibition against her serving as a charity trustee in England and Wales.
A three‑member tribunal determined that Campbell had been misled by Bianka Hellmich, another trustee of the poverty‑focused charity Fashion for Relief.
Slightly more than a year earlier, the Charity Commission — the body that registers and oversees charities in England and Wales — found that the organisation Campbell established roughly twenty years ago suffered from poor governance and inadequate financial controls.
The Commission identified multiple instances of misconduct and mismanagement, noting that only 8.5 % of the charity’s total spending between 2016 and 2022 was directed toward charitable grants. Consequently, it imposed a five‑year ban on Campbell acting as a charity trustee in England and Wales.
In its decision, the tribunal acknowledged serious misconduct and mismanagement but concluded that the financial failings and misuse of funds stemmed from Hellmich’s actions, which had been hidden from the 56‑year‑old supermodel.
