Under the new NASA Launch Services (NLS) II agreement, the agency awarded a contract extension to Relativity Space Inc. This partnership brings Relativity’s Terran R launch vehicle into the NASA Launch Services portfolio, operating under the established on‑ramp provision. The Terran R will now serve as an available option for future mission launches.
The NLS II framework comprises multiple‑award, indefinite‑delivery/indefinite‑quantity agreements scheduled for an initial ordering window through June 2030 and a total delivery span extending to December 2032. Notably, these contracts feature an on‑ramp mechanism enabling annual renewal competitions to attract emerging launch service providers while allowing incumbent contractors to integrate next‑generation rockets into their portfolios.
These NLS II initiatives directly align with the strategic priorities of NASA’s Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate, Science Mission Directorate, and Research & Technology Mission Directorate. Furthermore, the program affords NASA the flexibility to extend launch capabilities to allied federal entities, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The NLS II contracts stem from the agency’s Office of Launch Services located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
