Spire Motorsports suspended Carson Hocevar earlier Tuesday, ruling him out of the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. NASCAR has now added its own sanctions against the driver.
Following repeated brake-check incidents involving Austin Cindric across multiple laps at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, NASCAR fined Hocevar $100,000 and assessed a 25-point deduction.
Hocevar also spun out alone mid-race in a suspicious sequence that left competitors questioning whether it was intentional.
NASCAR also penalized Josh Berry of the Wood Brothers No. 21 for a brake check on Ryan Blaney that damaged the Team Penske No. 12 during Sunday’s race, issuing a $50,000 fine and a 25-point penalty.
The key distinction appears to be that Berry performed a single brake check in the corner, whereas Hocevar repeatedly brake-checked on the straightaways despite spotter Tyler Green urging him over the radio to “stop Carson.”
Hocevar had already met multiple times with NASCAR officials this season over an ongoing feud with Zane Smith, leaving the Spire Motorsports driver effectively on probation with the sanctioning body heading into the Martinsville incident.
The penalty report also suspended RFK Racing No. 60 crew members James Price and Samuel Wright after a wheel came loose from Ryan Preece’s car during the race. Both will miss the 2026 Homestead finale as well as the preseason Clash at Daytona in 2027.
