Netanyahu Personally Blocking Inquiry into October 7 Attacks, Alleges Former Israeli Intelligence Officer

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is actively working to prevent the establishment of an official commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, 2023, according to Barak Seri, a former Israeli military intelligence officer.

In a post on X, Seri asserted that Netanyahu was repeatedly warned and alerted about potential threats prior to the attacks, but chose to ignore them. “This is why Netanyahu is personally blocking the establishment of an inquiry commission,” Seri stated.

These claims follow a report by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, which stated that Netanyahu received warnings about a possible Hamas attack ahead of October 7, 2023, yet failed to convene a meeting to address them. Citing unnamed security officials, the newspaper noted that Netanyahu did not share these critical warnings with key security agencies, including the Shin Bet, Mossad, or the Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman).

Separately, US magazine The Atlantic reported that Abbas Kamel, the former Egyptian intelligence chief, secretly visited Israel eleven days before the October 7 events to warn Tel Aviv about a potential Hamas attack. Egypt has not officially commented on this claim.

In the aftermath of the October 7 attacks, Israel launched a widespread military offensive in the Gaza Strip. According to local health authorities, the ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of nearly 74,000 people, injured approximately 175,000 others, and left the enclave in ruins. Despite a ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October 2025, daily attacks have continued, killing over 1,400 Palestinians and injuring nearly 5,000 more.
