After a years‑long investigation, Nevada police have identified the remains of a man found stuffed in a corroded barrel near Las Vegas. The man was identified as Edward “Buddy” Lelburian Jackson. He was discovered in May 2022 with a gunshot wound to the head after drought‑driven water‑level drops exposed the barrel in Lake Mead.
Jackson’s remains were unidentified until investigators used DNA to link him to his family, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Homicide detective Robert Price said there is no evidence the death was tied to any known criminal group, despite earlier public speculation that it might be mob‑related.
“At this point in our investigation, we don’t have information to support those theories,” Price said.
Jackson is believed to have died in his mid‑to‑late 50s in the 1980s. He was originally from Arkansas, but had lived in California and Utah and was known to travel throughout the western United States. Authorities said he had previously been arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah, and had no known ties to Las Vegas; he had never been reported missing.
Price added that no new photographs of Jackson have been released and that the bullet that killed him was not recovered. The only item found in the barrel besides his clothing was the fatal gunshot wound to the head.
