Brazil suffered a setback as midfielder Lucas Paqueta was ruled out of the Round of 16 match against Norway due to a thigh injury. This leaves room for Neymar to potentially rejoin the starting lineup.

Paqueta was substituted at halftime during Brazil’s 2-1 win over Japan in the Round of 32, with scans confirming a muscle injury to his left thigh. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) stated he would undergo intensive treatment, though recovery could take two to three weeks.

With Paqueta unavailable, coach Carlo Ancelotti faces a strategic decision: replace him with another midfielder or integrate Neymar, who has been gradually increasing his minutes in recent matches. Neymar’s return could address the midfield gap left by Paqueta’s injury.

Brazil’s Round of 16 fixture against Norway is scheduled for July 5 at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Norway secured their spot with a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast, including a late goal by Erling Haaland.
