Despite lingering concerns regarding the durability of the turf at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the NFL has affirmed that the field is fully prepared for Sunday’s contest.
NFL Field Director Nick Pappas addressed reporters in Brazil, stating there is “no need to worry.” Pappas confirmed that he conducted a thorough review of the playing surface alongside an independent expert and a representative from the NFL Players Association, concluding that there are no safety risks.
“We have an independent inspector that comes in, walks with myself, walks with a member of the NFLPA,” Pappas explained. “They were here yesterday. Performed that test. Things check out. We’ve made additional improvements to the field that we think were helpful.”
The matchup, designated as a Dallas Cowboys home game, is scheduled to kick off this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
