Ekperikpe Ekpo asserts that the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran has accelerated Nigeria’s plans to expand its gas production capacity.
The ongoing regional tensions have destabilized global natural gas markets, offering Nigeria an opportunity to solidify its status as a leading exporter of the fuel.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, outlined strategic initiatives including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project. The administration aims to attract foreign investment, increase output, and position liquefied natural gas (LNG) for rising international demand, particularly from Europe seeking diversified energy sources.
Nevertheless, domestic challenges persist, with residents contending with elevated cooking gas prices. To address this, Ekpo highlighted measures to reduce LPG costs, transition millions of households from firewood and charcoal to cleaner alternatives, minimize gas flaring, and advance 20 proposed gas projects toward final investment decisions by 2030.
