Nintendo has added docked variable refresh rate (VRR) support to the Switch 2 in its latest system update. Although the feature was promised at launch, it was not available initially. The new 23.0.0 firmware brings VRR to TV mode.
VRR synchronizes a compatible display’s refresh rate with a game’s frame rate, helping reduce screen tearing and deliver smoother gameplay. It should be especially beneficial for titles with inconsistent frame rates and is already supported by the PS5 and Xbox Series S / X.
The update also adds a handheld Boost Mode toggle to Quick Settings, expands Mii Editor music options for nostalgic Wii, 3DS, and Wii U creations, and introduces full system transfers between Switch 2 consoles ahead of a Zelda-themed Switch 2 release next month.
