South Norfolk MP Goldsborough condemned the decision, stating that while Sutton may choose a celebrity path, Norfolk deserves a commissioner whose primary focus is the region.
Matthew Taylor, the Conservative county councillor who finished second in the PCC election, said he was “shocked” by the former detective’s extensive theatre schedule.
“During a major incident, the public expects the commissioner to be present and visible—even if operational command rests with the chief constable,” Taylor said.
The BBC has sought comment from Sutton.
A spokeswoman for Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner said the tour was undertaken in a private capacity during his personal time and that he would remain reachable for official business.
She added that appropriate safeguards were in place and that there would be no adverse impact on his official responsibilities.
Next week, Sutton is due to launch a public consultation on policing priorities for Norfolk.
