BEIJING — An earthquake in northwestern China has taken the life of one person and wounded four others, according to state media reports released on Tuesday.
The 6.3‑ magnitude tremor occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in Qinghai province, striking at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (six miles), the Xinhua News Agency stated.
Details on the full scope of casualties and damage remain incomplete. Rescue teams equipped with search dogs have been deployed to the mountainous region of Haixi prefecture on the Tibetan plateau. The area surrounding the epicenter sits at an average altitude exceeding 4,000 meters (13,000 feet), the report added.
