Inde Navarette in “Obsession.”
Director Curry Barker’s horror‑thriller Obsession, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, has quickly amassed a massive streaming audience just days after its premium video‑on‑demand debut.
After a May 15 theatrical run, the film follows Bear (Johnston), a music‑store employee hopelessly infatuated with his coworker Nikki (Navarrette). Unable to confess his feelings, Bear uses a mystical item called the One Wish Willow to make Nikki fall in love with him. The wish is granted, but Nikki’s newfound obsession turns deadly, forcing Bear to confront a terrifying curse.
Rated R, the cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. Obsession entered digital streaming via PVOD on Tuesday, following a 45‑day theatrical window.
While still in theaters, the movie has earned nearly $242.2 million domestically and $137.3 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $379.5 million against a modest $750 000 production budget.
‘Obsession’ Leads PVOD Charts on Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV
As of Saturday, Obsession tops Prime Video’s U.S. “Top 10 Purchased Movies” list, outpacing titles such as Citizen Vigilante and The Devil Wears Prada 2. It also holds the No. 1 spot on Fandango at Home’s PVOD ranking and leads the weekly PVOD chart compiled by FlixPatrol.
After seven consecutive weekends in the domestic box‑office top five, Deadline projects the film will slip to No. 6 in its eighth weekend, earning about $5.1 million from 2,640 North American theaters. Given its resilience, a rebound into the top five—potentially overtaking Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day—remains possible.
