Inter Miami fans hoping to see Cristian “Kily” Gonzalez patrolling the sideline have waited longer than anticipated for what is expected to become a pivotal leadership change for the club.

The delay stems from missing legal documentation: Gonzalez has not yet received the work permit required to legally coach in the United States, and Inter Miami insists the role will only be officially assumed once that paperwork clears. Until then, the appointment remains mutually agreed but technically unfinalized on the touchline.

An official agreement was signed in late August, with Hoyos confirming that the first team would operate with him provisionally while the new coach and staff complete the immigration process.

No fixed timeline exists for resolving Gonzalez’s visa and work permit applications, leaving Hoyos in charge for the remainder of the season. He assures representatives that he remains dedicated to assisting the incoming coaching staff during the transition.

At 63 years old, Hoyos leaves his personal stake at Inter Miami uncertain for the moment. After a training session, he told reporters that he would “come together and discuss details” with Gonzalez upon arrival, emphasizing his continued availability to support the transition period.

Club sources confirm that Hoyos maintains his standing within Inter Miami, with reports indicating strong respect for his contribution to the organization.

Inter Miami’s Current Season

Despite the administrative roadblocks, the squad remains competitive. Defending MLS Cup champions currently rank second in the Eastern Conference and third overall in the Supporters’ Shield, with 12 wins, four losses, and seven draws totaling 43 points.

The MLS campaign has been prodigious, highlighted by Lionel Messi’s 18 league goals propelling an offense that has notched 58 goals this season.
