Comedian and musician Oliver Tree, 32, lost his life in a tragic mid-air collision over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning when two helicopters crashed in the city’s western zone, according to authorities and reports.

Rio de Janeiro’s Military Fire Department confirmed that one of the helicopters crashed into a car dealership, igniting a fire that consumed several electric vehicles. Emergency responders successfully extinguished the blaze, though the incident left a significant portion of the dealership damaged.

Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the collision, which occurred in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes area. The crash was witnessed by local residents who reported hearing the helicopters before the impact.

Tree was traveling in Brazil as part of his world tour and had upcoming performances scheduled in the UK this September. He was among the six people tragically killed in the crash, which included a Brazilian music producer and Argentine video director and YouTuber Gaspar Prim, known online as “Gaspi.”

The alternative singer, whose distinctive bowl haircut and internet persona made him a recognizable figure, was aboard one of the helicopters with five other passengers. The second aircraft carried only its pilot. None of the six individuals on board survived the impact, with officials noting that victims suffered severe burns that complicated initial identification efforts.

Oliver Tree had built a substantial following through hits including “Life Goes On,” “Miss You,” and “Alien Boy,” amassing over 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His music videos have collectively garnered hundreds of millions of streams, establishing him as a prominent voice in the alternative music scene.
