One Terrorist Neutralized and Eight Detained During Ongoing Security Operations in Bannu

BANNU: An intelligence-based operation (IBO) entered its third day across various sectors of the Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday. According to police reports, the mission resulted in the death of one terrorist and the apprehension of eight suspects.

The operation was directed by Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (retd) Muhammad Furqan Bilal. It was a collaborative effort involving the district police, Elite Force, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and the Pakistan Army within the village of Grera Shah Jahan. During the engagement, military forces cordoned off the vicinity and established strategic blocking positions at critical points.

The DPO’s office issued a statement confirming that a terrorist was killed while attempting to deploy an improvised explosive device (IED). Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, multiple magazines, and a bandolier from the deceased.

Furthermore, police reported that eight suspicious individuals were detained during the sweep. They have since been transferred to the CTD and district police for a comprehensive technical investigation.

During searches conducted at the residence of the wanted militant known as Zargul (alias “Uncle”), authorities seized two Honda CD-125 motorcycles and a rickshaw.

Bannu police emphasized that coordinated operations with law enforcement and security agencies will persist to eradicate terrorism, uphold law and order, and ensure the safety of citizens. Officials praised DPO Bilal for his leadership and dedicated commitment to public security.

Bannu Police reaffirmed their resolve to continue aggressive operations against militant elements in partnership with various security agencies to maintain regional stability.

This latest development follows a statement from the military’s media wing on Friday, which reported that security forces had neutralized 24 terrorists in the Bannu district and surrounding areas within a 24-hour period.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) noted a recent escalation in terrorist activity, including suicide bombings and attacks targeting police forces in Bannu. The ISPR stated that extensive joint intelligence-based operations have been launched to dismantle the perpetrators and their supporting infrastructure.

The ISPR identified “Fitna-al-Khawarij”—the state term for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)—as the group responsible for these attacks.

Bannu district has experienced a significant increase in security incidents recently, with both civilians and security personnel frequently targeted during this surge in militant violence.

In a recent high-profile attack on Wednesday night, a police officer was martyred, and six security personnel along with four civilians were injured when militants targeted a police station in Bannu.

The assailants attempted to ram an explosive-laden vehicle into the Miryan Police Station, causing a massive blast, which was followed by a heavy exchange of gunfire. Although the terrorists attempted to storm the station following the explosion, security forces responded swiftly and successfully repelled the assault.

Recent terrorism incidents in Bannu, including attacks on police and jirga members, have necessitated these targeted operations to disrupt insurgent networks throughout the region.
