The Election Commission has stated that differing viewpoints are a normal aspect of any institution and do not impair its operations.

Nevertheless, concerns regarding the revision process persist, prompting opposition parties, the Chief Justice of India, and student organizations to stage multiple demonstrations across Delhi and other major Indian cities.

Last month, Congress MP and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi led tens of thousands of demonstrators on a march from Connaught Place in central Delhi to the Supreme Court, demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

A party spokesperson remarked that the march was merely a prelude, noting that Sunday’s rally would be substantially larger.

In the lead‑up to the event, Gandhi characterized the protest as a stand against the erosion of Indian democracy, inviting all opposition parties and any interested individuals, whether political or not, to join.

He emphasized, “There is profound anger and deep emotional pain, as millions are being stripped of their voting rights.”

Our unity stems from a shared commitment to defend the Constitution, the very idea of India, and the vote—a fundamental expression of every Indian citizen.
