A judicial magistrate has ordered the custody of a teenage suspect to be handed over to police for an ossification test to determine his age in a Karachi-based rape case involving an American woman.
The investigation officer presented the suspect before Judicial Magistrate Muzammil Ali Soomro and requested his physical custody for interrogation.
After reviewing the birth certificate provided by the suspect, which indicated he was a minor, the court transferred him to police custody for four days to verify his actual age.
The court noted that the suspect’s physical characteristics suggested an adult, conflicting with the age stated on the birth certificate copy. As a result, the court mandated an ossification test to confirm his age.
The court directed the investigation officer to arrange the ossification examination through a qualified medical board.
According to the victim, a permanent U.S. resident living in Defense Housing Authority (DHA) since April, she reported being sexually assaulted by the suspect around 4 a.m. on July 17 in her DHA apartment before he fled.
