The Dallas Wings continue to evaluate how their roster will integrate Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, the league’s two most recent No. 1 overall draft selections.
On Monday evening, however, the partnership showed promising signs.
After an overtime period, Dallas secured a 112-110 victory over the Seattle Storm.
Bueckers paced the Wings with 27 points, shooting 12-of-23 from the field and 3-of-6 beyond the arc. She also contributed five rebounds, five assists and a steal, despite not attempting a free throw.
Fudd logged 42 minutes, four more than Bueckers’ 38.
During her extended time, Fudd tallied 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three-point range, and was perfect from the line at 2-of-2. She added three rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Dallas received double-digit contributions from three additional players, led by Aziaha James with 18 points.
To achieve its season objectives, the Wings will need Bueckers and Fudd to maintain this level of performance.
While consistency is challenging, nights like this demonstrate that the team’s blueprint can work.
The chemistry between Bueckers and Fudd is evident, and the organization hopes to see it translate regularly on the court.
If they continue to produce performances similar to Monday’s, Dallas could possess one of the WNBA’s most formidable backcourts, positioning the franchise for sustained growth.
